Why Would Muslim 'Insurgents' Kidnap Beverley Giesbrecht?
Brian Hutchinson of the National Post asks, "Why would
insurgents kidnap a Muslim woman notorious for
collecting and disseminating pro-terrorist,
anti-Western propaganda"? It could be because there's
more to Ms. Giesbrecht than we're being told.

I first communicated with Ms. Giesbrecht on August 21,
2003. We exchanged several emails over the next few days.

I wrote, "We have received allegations that Jihad
Unspun is a CIA web site. If you do not have CIA
connections we would be pleased to make your rebuttal a
part of the record."
I had issues with several points in her story:
1 - She first presented herself as a man -- Bruce
Kennedy.
2 - She claimed to have made a lot of money in the
publishing business, yet a Google search on her name
yielded only 6 entries (all post-Sep 11, 2001) -- very
meager for someone with 20 years in publishing,
particularly someone "well known among business
magazine publishing circles".

3 - Her conversion to Islam was unusual. Back in 2003,
Ms. Giesbrecht wrote me to say that she obtained
"official certification from Al-Azhar Institute . . .
in Cairo". The description of her conversion appears to
have been prepared by someone who is not too familiar
with Islam. That description, which has since been
altered, mentions yet another alias -- Paul Morris-Read.

4 - Her resume failed to list a summer serving with the
Mennonite Disaster Service. "Bev Giesbrecht left May 21
to spend the summer serving with Mennonite Disaster
Service in Birmingham, Ala., and then will be given
another posting with MDS until spring 2000."

According to her CV, Ms. Giesbrecht's summer with
Mennonite Disaster Service in Alabama was concurrent
with her job as Director/Shareholder/Director of
Business Development at Newdale Systems Inc.

5 - August 23, 2003, TRACEROUTE and WHOIS (Internet
trace tools) results for jihadunspun.com show that:
(a) jihadunspun.com is a front for something else because
TRACEROUTE "fails to get packets through to the remote
end system"; (b) Bruce (Bev?) Kennedy -- a fictitious
name as stated in e-mail from Bev Kennedy -- is listed
as Administrative, Technical, and Zone contact.
Internet Service Providers are not likely to provide
service to persons presenting fictitious names whose
web site receives "over 800,000 viewers each day";
(c) WHOIS jihadunspun.com lists two servers --
NS1.YOURGALAXY.COM and NS2.YOURGALAXY.COM, and a
TRACEROUTE on these leads to another dead end.

Purchases from the jihadunspun.com store can be made
through PayPal. PayPal requires bank references, and
will not issue merchant accounts to persons presenting
fictitious names. It defies logic that jihadunspun can
remain anonymous to any government agency with an
interest in disabling the web site.
The answer to why would insurgents kidnap Beverley
Giesbrecht -- aka Bruce Kennedy, Bev Kennedy, Paul
Morris-Read, Khadija Abdul Qahaar -- is pretty obvious.
She may not be who she claims she is.
